Scholarship Video Prompt TURNING TRAGEDY INTO PURPOSE

Students who wish to apply for our scholarship must submit a video following this prompt:
Describe how a traumatic car accident experience has influenced your life and determined your future prospects in the work field. For your video to be eligible it must:

  • Be created in PSA format as you share your story and the lessons you learned
  • Be 1 to 2 minutes in length
  • Be posted to your YouTube account (unlisted)

When you’re finished with your video, please add a link to your scholarship application form.

Who Is Eligible for Our Scholarship?

We encourage students to apply to the A Second Chance: How My Accident Changed My Goals for the Future scholarship regardless of their area of study. To qualify for our scholarship, you must:

  • Be enrolled or accepted to an accredited college, university, or graduate school
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be a U.S. citizen or otherwise authorized to work or attend school in the U.S.
  • Create a video explaining how a traumatic car accident has influenced your life and led you to develop your future plans in the work field
  • Submit the link to your video through the form linked on this page
  • Apply using the form linked on this page
  • Agree to the Terms and Conditions

Video Requirements

Keep the following criteria in mind as you record your video:

  • Record in a well-lit area and keep your recording device as steady as possible
  • State your full name and the name of the scholarship you’re applying for, either at the beginning or end of your video
  • Give credits as necessary
  • Name any sources you gathered information from and the media editing tools you used in the description of the video
  • Use only copyright-free content
  • Give your video a creative title that reflects the subject of the video and your original ideas

You are permitted to use any media editing tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud to add images, effects, and any desired media elements to your video. Matlin Injury Law will award our scholarship based on the quality of your script and not your video editing skills. Please take your time to thoughtfully answer the video prompt and tell your story. Any use of AI, aside from generating B-roll footage is not permitted. Using AI to automatically generate videos or using fake actors is not allowed and will result in the automatic disqualification of your application.

Terms and Conditions

All applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be enrolled at a college, university, or graduate school
  • Must be at least 18 years of age at enrollment
  • Must have residency in the United States
  • Must be in good academic standing
  • Must be comfortable submitting some personal information, such as name, contact information, and academic information
  • Must create an original video on the scholarship topic provided
  • Must be the survivor of a car accident

You are not eligible to receive the scholarship if any of the following apply to you:

  • You are an employee or the child of an employee at Matlin Injury Law
  • You previously received the A Second Chance: How My Accident Changed My Goals for the Future scholarship
  • You are unable or unwilling to be interviewed by a representative of Matlin Injury Law if you are awarded a scholarship
  • You submit the same video for multiple scholarships or multiple years in a row

Selection & Award Notification Process 

You must submit your application before the deadline provided on this page. Any late or incomplete applications will not be considered. We will have a scholarship committee determine the winner of the award. 

Matlin Injury Law will not allow age, race, religion, gender, national origin, familial status, or other protected classes to influence the scholarship committee’s decision. 

We will announce the winner of our scholarship via email, an announcement on Matlin Injury Law’s blog, and a press release. 

Once we have selected a recipient, we will mail the scholarship directly to your college or university. We will reach out for instructions for mailing the check once we have determined a winner. Our firm reserves the right to contact the winner for any additional information needed to confirm their enrollment status and academic standing. 

Privacy Statement 

We do not give, sell, or distribute your personal information to any third parties.

Matlin Injury Law holds the right to use the winner’s name and photos in any announcement or communication related to our scholarship. We may share this information on our website, in marketing materials, or on our social media. 

You consent to our public use of your name and image by submitting your application.
